Woody Bay Cottage

Woody Bay Cottage is in a peaceful, secluded position at the end of a quiet road passing through the National Trust Woody Bay Estate, with a path to the beach.  It originally consisted of two cottages, believed to have been built for the lime burners who worked the kilns above the beach.

The cottage is about 4 miles from Lynton, which has shops, small restaurants, cafes, a small cinema, a Post Office (well stocked with visitor information and local maps) and the world-famous water-powered funicular railway to and from Lynmouth. The Fox and Goose pub in Parracombe and Hunters' Inn in at Heddon Valley, are both also about 4 miles from the cottage and serve excellent meals. The stunningly beautiful surrounding Exmoor National Park countryside is excellent for walking, sea and river fishing, bird-watching, riding and visiting the many other places of interest in the area. The wide, sandy surfing beaches at Woolacombe and Croyde are to the west. Woody Bay Station is about  2 miles from the cottage, and is the centre of the restoration of the narrow-gauge Lynton & Barnstaple Railway. It runs steam rides on a short stretch.

The five bedrooms are accessed by quite steep staircases, with some low thresholds: (1) a spacious double with washbasin, the first floor bathroom being a few steps down; there is a staircase down to the ground floor, opening onto the front terrace; (2) a further double bedded room (3) a twin bedded room, leading to (4), a single bedded room with cot; (5) a single room on the ground floor with TV/DVD, three steps up from the living room and three steps down from the ground floor bathroom.

The first floor has a bathroom and lavatory wiht a bath with an electric shower over. There is a further separate lavatory with washbasin on this floor.

On the ground floor, up three steps from ground floor bedroom level, is the second bathroom, with bath, hand shower attachment and lavatory. The washing machine and tumble dryer are also in this bathroom.

The sitting room has a low ceiling (6' 6") and an open fire in a stone fireplace. There is a TV/DVD and comfy seating for 6.

The dining room also has a low ceiling, a dining table seating 8, and a small, low flap-down table with two infants' school chairs, a woodburning stove and oak furniture.

The kitchen is fully fitted with an electric fan oven, grill and hob, microwave, large fridge/freezer (70/30) and dishwasher. It is well equipped.

The garden has shrub borders and a small lawn, with a large picnic table. The stone paved terrace has a table, chairs and benches. There is a charcoal barbecue. Wooded hillsides are to the rear and side of the cottage.

There is ample parking on the road where it ends at the cottage.
